VADAKKUMNATHAN TEMPLE, THRISSUR
I always had a strong devotion to lord shiva....the protector...during my one year stay at thrissur....the most frequently visited place was vadakkumnatha temple which is in the heart of thrissur city....every time feel like thrissur is living around this temple.....east..west..north..south.....thrissur is around vadakkumnathan and thekkinkadu maithanam......
Thrissur is always so special for me...... i got my best friends for life from thrissur....from prof pc thomas classes...my virus....alexander, tony, johns, gijo, sebin vidya and priyanka.....and i got my brother in law from thrissur... vishnu chettan...my sissy found her love there...so all together thrissur is my favourite place and vadakumnathan temple owes a prior position in that...
So about the temple..legends says temple was constructed by lord parasurama.....read the legendary story here..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vadakkunnathan_Temple. The his world famous thrissur pooram is conducted in front of this temple. the favourite place i like in this temple is koothambalam..which is believed to be constructed by the architectural legend perumthachan of parayi petta panthirukulam so it is believed that the temple and koothambalam is 1300 years old....which clearly sets the magic of typical kerala architecture. The original idol is not seen if we look ..because its covered with ghee....of abhishekam over centuries.... read about pooram herehttp://thrissurpooramfestival.com/temples.html....

PANACHIKKAD SARASWATHI TEMPLE
I have been there three times... with my father....i loved the early train journeys to kottayam....kottayam the language capital of kerala.....i just love that place...since dad had his graduation at kottayam he is very much addicted to this place..every time when the train reaches kottayam he will say.....from here the sand knows my life...my story....!!!
What i like in kottayam is all about the houses there....typical christian houses.....beautifully maintained....neat gardens....we will take a bus from there...and need to walk for some time to reach the temple.....i will stand in front of all houses on d way and admire....i just loved what i did.....the perfectionism was always seen in kottayam
Panachikkad temple is also known as dakshina mookambika temple which is an important saraswathi temple in kerala - saraswathi the goddess of knowledge is worshiped here...no wonder why kottayam become the knowledge and language capital of kerala. the legend behind the temple can be read here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panachikkadu_Temple and the official website of the temple is http://www.panachickad.org/php/panachi_LOC.php
I loved the pink coloured kumkum we got from temple....the pens i got blessed before i wrote my tenth exam...and of course the beautiful kottayam....

The flora and fauna of these temples ensure these will be maintained and i just love these greenery ...
Temples are the places of worship..and not a tourist place and we should maintain the divinity of those places....

PARASSINI KADAVU MUTHAPPAN TEMPLE , KANNUR
Temples have always been a travel destination from the time i remember....as i grew older i visited many temples...few churches...prayed in front of mosques..... i am not a religious person....i don't pray often nor visited temples during festive seasons...but somewhere deep inside me i got the faith....there is some strange feeling that always engulf me when i do visit temples and churches...and so many to cover before i leave this planet....i can't spot a favourite but when the idea of blogging came about my favourite temples..i decided to start with parassini kadavu muthappan temple.
Lord shiva , the conservator of earth is worshiped in the human form here located in the banks of valapattanam river at kannur district of north kerala. fish , toddy and meat are offering to muthappan . the history , legendary tales , rituals can be read in this website. http://parassinikadavumuthappan.com/
To me north kerala is a magical land..i had never seen a place above thrissur and the cultural diversity of kerala lies in these lands...with marvellous theyyam, different rituals...mamakkam.... i had read about all through many journals and i logged much to visit north kerala and got a bucket list of things to do there....so the first chance for me came last year...
I never knew god will be worshiped in human forms and we can go near them...tell our problems in their ears ...and they will console us...unless the stone idols...and offerings we make in temples...will god hear anything???? here we are sure god is listening to our prayers....omg .....after all these months when writing this still i am feeling chill in my spine...should visit there once again...to get the blessings of muthappan
This blog is for someone like me who love to travel across kerala in search of its divergent culture and traditions and legendary tales... let god shower his blessings to visit more places...
